The end of January is almost upon us and I’m determined to wrap up this 2015 year in review post – I will bloody well finish things this year! So before I blink and it’s March, here’s a look at the past year’s misadventures.
Winter hit early and was particularly long, cold and, well…winter-y. It rather sucked to be honest. While friends were flying south to get some respite from the cold we stayed put and started saving and planning for our wedding. Purple hues seemed to have dominated when flicking through photos – purple smoothies, presents, vinyl, and morning lights. Winter was one of hibernation – spending the time listening to records, playing board games, and a few online courses; learning tarot with Veronica Varlow and blogging with Sarah Morgan’s Badass Babes Blog e-course.
In contrast to the doldrums of winter, I found myself out and about a lot more once spring hit. Traveling to Toronto twice, and spending my birthday in Ottawa playing pinball and hanging out with my good friend Kathleen at the House of TARG (if you’re ever in Ottawa it’s a ton of fun!). Dive bars, cocktails, record shopping, comic book geekery with my brother – who I shall now refer to as “Greg” (thx Starbucks – better than my Jheymey at least), and catching up with dear friends was a theme for Spring of 2015.
Summer in Northern Ontario is just incredible and quite perfect in contrast to the muggy, humid hell of Ottawa summers I remember from childhood. We took full advantage of the good weather – getting out to nearby Provincial Parks, swimming in Lake Superior, and woodland hikes. After 20 some years of dying my dark brown hair black I tried to lighten it. Several intensive salon trips later it was brown for a total of 4 months before I went back to black. Summer however wasn’t all sunshine and forest wanderings sadly, we said goodbye to our darling cat Jasper.
Fall was insane. There was so much going on – last minute planning for our big trip and elopement, loads of projects at work, and a quick trip down to Burlington to start my next tattoo. And then finally, we headed West, tying the knot in the desert, and continued onto our honeymoon in southern California. There we met up with our good friends Dave & Nicole for Rock N Roll antics in Los Angeles; dinner at the legendary Rainbow Bar & Grill, record shopping at Amoeba, sniffing ALL the Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab perfumes with Nicole at Dark Delicacies, Disneyland, and just simply having the most incredible time ever. Fall also saw a new addition to our little family – we adopted Lemmy, who has a crazy motor of a purr, pretty appropriate given his namesake.
And that was 2015. I didn’t knit as much as I’d hoped to, I totally flaked out on my fitness and nutrition goals, we didn’t adopt a dog, and I certainly didn’t do yoga every week. It wasn’t an extraordinary year, but it was a year filled with little (and big) happy moments, and for the most part it was a very good year. Here’s to more happy-making days for 2016! I hope your year is full of adventures and things that make you laugh and smile xx
